In 1899, Franz Thumb opened a small canvas manufacturing company in Hamburg, Germany and founded Spettmann. His goal was simple, to provide the best quality canvas products for his customers at a fair price. The foundation was laid very early when Franz Thumb developed seafaring canvas able to withstand any kind of weather. The same can be said about the high-quality awning systems that have secured the company‘s position in the market for decades. The tradition still continues, as Spettmann has been delivering that same concept for over 112 years.

Spettmann has been defining quality, experience and comptradition for over a century. We developed the first Water Resistant fabric and invented the first Hidden-Spring lateral arm retractable awning.
